Illume

To light up, illuminate

Dance has been used to tell stories for centuries. This year, we want to shine light on those stories that have not been told, from uncommon perspectives. There are two sides to every story. We encourage choreographers to challenge common perceptions to open the audience’s eyes to minority and unique story lines.

Choreographers will be able to tell their own stories, or other people’s stories that they relate to. Choreographers may also want to represent the stories/perspectives of famous or historical figures. This theme is intended to elicit a strong connection and emotional response in the audience, but also allows for more abstract and comedic approaches that will suit a variety of different styles.
